About Mental Health Diagnoses

While educators are not mental health providers, having some background information about child development, developmental psychopathology and childhood mental health disorders can help guide appropriate and effective instructional strategies, support, and intervention.

Please click on a mental health diagnosis on the left to see general information about the most common mental health disorders impacting children and adolescents in Chittenden County including prevalent symptoms, educational implications, school and classroom based strategies, and helpful information resources.

If you are looking for more detailed school or classroom strategies, click on "School and Classroom Based Strategies" in the bar above.

Please note that the information contained on this website is intended to enhance understanding about mental health issues that Chittenden County schools may encounter in their students.  It should never be used to formulate a diagnosis.  Mental health diagnoses should be made only by a trained mental health professional after a thorough evaluation.
