Attention Deficit- Hyperactivity Disorder

Many people have difficulty sitting still, paying attention, or controlling their impulses from time to time.  All children (particularly younger ones) struggle with these behaviors at times, especially when they are anxious or excited.  However, when these behaviors are pervasive, last for a long period of time, and interfere with a child's ability to accomplish everyday tasks, he or she may be living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  ADHD is a mental health condition with a biological basis.

Early identification, comprehensive assessment, and integrated treatment of ADHD are extremely important.  Through the Vermont ADHD Initiative, a clearly defined, systematic approach to the identification and treatment of ADHD has been developed.  This multi-disciplinary approach defines the roles of each key partner (family, health professional, school) in identifying and addressing the needs of students with ADHD.  Click here for more detailed information about the Vermont ADHD Initiative.
